This is the second part of "He's A Hero". The majority being about Dawson getting hit in the face by Eric Show. Dawson owned Show. He had homered in 3 of his last 5 plate appearances at that point against him. The pitch looks to be intentional (although later denied by Show and manager Larry Bowa). Sutcliffe thought so too and was the first one out of the dugout to defend The Hawk.
I was eight yrs. old watching this game on WGN. I remember going absolutley nuts. Seeing Dawson take a 90 mph pitch to the face and still fight through both teams to get to Show made me idolize #8 even more.
Growing up in the midwest in the late 80s I followed the Cubs on WGN. They played all day games, had an exciting broadcast team, and in the summer of '87 signed Andre Dawson. That season started my love affair with the Cubs and the Hawk. I will be documenting the induction ceremony in person from Cooperstown on July 25th.
